wrote a book called poem’s from the inner soul
what’s going on in Washington State prisons and around the US
by L. J. Hope my pen name , It came out in October, also when I was released… I’ve done 41 years.I’ve talked with people’s family and the incarcerated. around the U. S. about what’s going on in
our prison system.. and what I’ve experienced in the 41 yrs.
And turned them into poems. after I explained the mistreatment
that the Department of corrections. does to the incarcerated and there families..
this book should be taken to all prison advocate meetings to let
them experience what’s going on and brought up to the legislature..
I’m a writer, poet, artist,
and most of all a prison advocate.
sincerely
John Steiner

We’re so sorry you’re going through this. Your son’s situation is deeply concerning, especially his health decline and being held in solitary confinement despite being found not guilty. Here’s some information and contacts that may help:
Steps You Can Take Immediately
(360) 725-8735
doc.constituentservices@doc.wa.gov
1. Contact the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC)
Call the DOC Headquarters Constituent Services Office, which handles family and public concerns:
When you contact them:
Be specific: Give your son’s full name, DOC number (if you have it), facility name, and his condition.
State that he is in immediate medical distress and needs urgent medical attention.
Mention that he has lost 50 lbs, is in solitary despite cleared charges, and has told you he is afraid he may die.
2. File an Emergency Complaint with the Office of the Corrections Ombuds (OCO)
Online complaint form: https://oco.wa.gov
(360) 664-4749
oco@oco.wa.gov
They are an independent agency in Washington that investigates mistreatment or rights violations in prisons:
Indicate that this is a medical emergency and explain your son’s situation clearly and briefly. You can say something like:
“My son is being held in segregation for over four months at [facility], despite being found not guilty of the charges. His health is rapidly declining — he’s lost 50 pounds, cannot get adequate medical care, and called to say goodbye. I fear for his life. Please intervene immediately.”
3. Contact Disability Rights Washington (DRW)
info@dr-wa.org
(800) 562-2702
They advocate for people with disabilities, including incarcerated individuals denied medical or mental health care.
Website: https://www.disabilityrightswa.org
DRW has experience with solitary confinement and denial of medical care. Send them a detailed message about the situation.
4. Contact Your Local Lawmaker
https://app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/
Find your state legislator (Senator or Representative in Washington) and tell them what’s happening. You can find your reps here:
Call and email their office asking them to look into your son’s case immediately — elected officials can sometimes escalate issues faster.
5. Contact a Prisoner Advocacy Organization
Organizations that support families and advocate for prisoners in Washington:
Columbia Legal Services – https://columbialegal.org
Black Prisoners Caucus (inside WA prisons, but they often have outside allies)
Important Tips
Keep a written record of every contact you make (who, when, what was said).
Ask for a wellness check to be done urgently.
Mention that he may be a suicide risk if you’re comfortable doing this.
You can also attend an online support group meeting: https://PrisonFamiliesAlliance.org/calendar
